It is good to reflect from time to time on this mystery we call life.
As WH Davies put it
“what is life if so full of care, we have no time to stand and stare”
The simple observation, the asking of those basic questions of who, what, how, why and where and the sifting of the material collected leading to our conclusions is at the heart of the scientific process. It is also basic to our own identity and fulfilment as human beings.
The problem for most of us is that we do not think beyond the immediate or superficial. We are like those in Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s poem who fail to see the “bush ablaze with the glory of God and are content to collect blackberries!”
This blog is aimed at trying to see into and through the daily commonplace in nature and human relationships toward an understanding of the Creator’s purpose behind it all. Being a Christian I have to say that my understanding has come to be Biblically based and so the Bible text will play a large part in illuminating for me what I observe from day to day. I believe and pray with the poet John Keble
“the works of God above, below; within us and around, are pages in a book to show how God Himself is found.”
“You who have given me eyes to see, and love this sight so fair, give me a heart to find out Thee and read Thee everywhere”
Will you not share my fire from time to time and allow me to warm myself at your fire? “Every bush is ablaze with the glory of God” Let’s draw near like Moses and glimpse something of that glory for ourselves. I am sure our thinking and living will be utterly transformed in the process!
